As individuals have grown more and more reliant on the Internet in recent years, broadband video usage has skyrocketed and is seen by many industry analysts as an opportunity with double-digit annual growth and billions of dollars of advertiser support. It is also estimated that within the next decade, much of entertainment consumption will migrate from television and more traditional platforms to the Internet.
While the measurement of online consumption has been empirical from the beginning, only recently has video been delivered to the masses. Although a preeminent Internet video measurement solution with its roots in traditional television does not currently exist, Rentrak is developing a television-like measurement system for broadband video which will provide empirical measurement within a framework which television content owners will find both familiar and tailored to their specific needs.
